Most air conditioning and refrigeration systems have traditionally used a refrigerant gas known as either R12 or R22. Emissions of these two refrigerant gases into our atmosphere have been proven to cause a depletion of the earth's ozone layer – the protective layer in our Earth's atmosphere which absorbs 97 to 99% of the Sun's high frequency ultraviolet light, which is damaging to life on Earth. Ozone Friendly Gas As a result, all air conditioning and refrigeration systems are now required by law to change from ozone depletion (R12 and R22) gas to ozone friendly gas by 2020.
